Excavation & trenching

If it takes a machine and the ground, we probably do it. Foundations, utility trenches, water and sewer lines, demolition and the odd jobs nobody else wants.

Excavation work we take on

  • Foundation and footing excavation for homes, additions and garages
  • Utility trenches for water, sewer, gas, electric and conduit
  • Water and sewer service lines, new and replacement
  • Retaining walls and the excavation behind them
  • Demolition of sheds, garages, foundations and old pools
  • Backfill and compaction
  • Ponds, test pits and specialty digging

Safety comes first on every dig

Before any excavation, we notify Call Before You Dig and wait for the utility mark-outs. Connecticut law requires notice at least two full business days before digging with power equipment, and the ticket is only good for a limited window. Our guide to Call Before You Dig in Connecticut explains how it works and what's not marked, like private lines on your own property.

Trenches are dug and protected to keep the crew safe, and open excavations are fenced or covered when we're not on site.

Water and sewer lines

When a water service leaks or a sewer line backs up, the line usually has to be dug up and replaced. We excavate, replace or repair the pipe, bed it properly, and backfill and restore the surface. Where the town or water company requires inspections, we coordinate them.

No job too small

A lot of what we do is small: a trench for a generator line, a single drainage pipe, digging out a buried oil tank area for a licensed remover, or pulling a few boulders. If it's in the ground, call us.

Common questions

Do you call in the utility mark-out?

Yes. We place the Call Before You Dig ticket for our jobs and wait for mark-outs before digging. Private lines you installed, like a lamp post, sprinkler or invisible fence, aren't marked by the utilities, so tell us about them.

Can you replace a water or sewer line to the house?

Yes. We dig, replace the line, bed it, backfill and restore the surface, and coordinate any inspections the town or utility requires.

Do you do demolition?

We handle smaller demolition like sheds, garages, old foundations and pools, including haul-away and restoring the ground.

How deep can you dig?

That depends on the job and soil. We match the machine to the work and use proper trench protection for deep excavations.
